Description
Countrywide Soak Seed 15kg
Preparation
To soak:
- Rinse the seeds well under running water
- In any suitable container (keeping in mind that the seed will increase in volume as it soaks / sprouts), add plenty of water, at least three times the volume of seed.
- Use warm (not hot) water to improve germination speed (if desired)
- Add GSE (grapefruit seed extract) or another water sanitiser (e.g. Birdcare Aviclens) to help prevent unwanted fungal or bacterial growth.
- Allow soaking for up to 24 hours at room temperature
- Rinse with plenty of cold running water
- Give as is or mixed with egg food or fruits and vegetables
Alternatively, allow seed to germinate:
- Automatic sprouter (see instructions on link)
- Tray method
- Spread in a thin layer on a flat tray, adding just enough water to dampen the seeds, but not to cover them.
- Add GSE (grapefruit seed extract) or another water sanitiser (e.g. Birdcare Aviclens) to help prevent unwanted fungal or bacterial growth.
- Change the water a few times a day and allow to germinate for 1-2 days.
- Jar method
- Place in a jar, and cover with muslin or other porous cloth, secured in place of a lid.
- Add a small amount of water
- Add GSE (grapefruit seed extract) or another water sanitiser (e.g. Birdcare Aviclens) to help prevent unwanted fungal or bacterial growth.
- Turn the jar onto a 45-degree angle, with the opening facing downwards.
- The water should mostly drain from the jar but the atmosphere remains humid.
- Change the water a few times a day and allow to germinate for 1-2 days.
- Rinse with plenty of cold running water
Give as is or mixed with egg food or fruits and vegetables
Ideally, you should only soak and/or germinate enough to feed your birds for one day. Do NOT soak or germinate a large quantity in advance for feeding over a few days unless it can be refrigerated in a sealed container.
